River Rally 2013

Come help clean a portion of the Santa Clara River… the longest free-flowing river and one of the last two natural river systems remaining in Southern California. Be a part of the solution for a better environment by helping to preserve the river’s natural beauty and variety of wildlife. To date, thousands of volunteers have collected over 377,000 pounds of trash and debris from the Santa Clara River and its tributaries!

Participants will be provided with gloves, collection bags, and refreshments.  Visit the Environmental Expo, with over 20 vendors, to learn about recycling, air quality, pollution prevention, water quality, open space preservation, wildlife conservation, and much more!

The 2013 River Rally will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at the Newhall Community Center.
Pre-Registration is required.  A web-based volunteer registration system has been set-up.  It is an easy process and you can use any computer with internet access to register.

Go to http://www.santa-clarita.com/index.aspx?page=857 and create an account.  Please note that if you have signed up for City Recreation classes, you may already have an account.  This new volunteer registration system will allow you to submit your information and waiver electronically from the comfort of your own home.  You will also be able to print your own confirmation.

Santa Clarita River Rally Volunteer Registration opens on Monday, July 22, and closes Friday, September 13.  Note that wristbands will be given out the morning of the event to those who have pre-registered.

Surfing Beach Trip September 2013

SurfingBeach Trip Permission Slip 2013

Parents / Scouts should understand we are at the beach and being in the ocean surfing / body boarding / swimming etc does have its’ dangers and that scouts will need to use their scout knowledge of swimming safety / rip tides / first aid and general behavior on the beach. Scouts should be good swimmers and not afraid to tumble in the water a time or two. Mondos beach is known for being the perfect beach for learning to surf and is usually pretty mild in its’ water conditions but it is the ocean and things can happen.

The idea is to introduce scouts to the sport of surfing while using their scouting skills and have great day at the beach!!!
